Welcome to this website on the Anthropocene
What is the Anthropocene?
The proposal of a new geological epoch
The Anthropocene was formalized in scientific community in the early 2000s. It is the proposal of a new geological epoch characterized by the fact that human activity has become a major force for change on the Earth's surface.
Our time and our space
In a broader sense, the Anthropocene is simply the world we live in, a world "transformed" by humans.
The time of a human-induced global ecological catastrophe
As the transformation of the Earth's surface by humans mostly takes the form of alteration, the Anthropocene is first and foremost the time of a human-induced global ecological catastrophe.
The time of awareness?
The media coverage of biodiversity collapse and climate change has helped spread the idea that mankind has the power to disrupt planetary systems.
The Anthropocene is therefore, and above all, the collective recognition of our huge capacity to transform the Earth's surface. Today, this power is applied in the sense of a profound alteration of the living world and its substratum.
Changing the Anthropocene
In view of the biological collapse and climate change underway, it seems urgent to reorientate our actions in order to enter a less destructive Anthropocene.
I hope this website will play a small part in that change, helping to raise awareness of what is undoubtedly the greatest challenge of our time.
Here you will find a wealth of information (photographs, graphs, key facts and figures) on the Anthropocene, as well as in-depth articles on the subject.
